Most vocational nurses provide basic bedside care, taking vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration. Vocational nurses monitor their patients and report adverse reactions to medications or treatments. They collect samples for testing; perform routine laboratory tests, feed patients, and document food and fluid intake and output. To help keep patients comfortable, vocational nurses assist with bathing, dressing, and personal hygiene. In States where the law allows, they may administer prescribed medicines or start intravenous fluids. Some vocational nurses help to deliver, care for, and feed infants. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, home health aides is expected to be the fastest growing occupation, as a result of both growing demand for home services from an aging population and efforts to contain costs by moving patients out of hospitals and nursing care facilities as quickly as possible. Consumer preference for care in the home and improvements in medical technologies for in-home treatment also will contribute to much-faster-than-average employment growth for home health aides. Nursing assistants carry out routine tasks under the supervision of nursing and medical personnel. They respond to patients’ call lights; deliver messages; serve meals; make beds; and help patients to eat, dress, and bathe. They may provide skin care to patients; take their temperature, pulse rate, respiration rate, and blood pressure; and help them to get into and out of bed and walk. They also may accompany patients to operating and examining rooms, keep patients’ rooms neat, set up equipment, store and move supplies, and help with some procedures. The Network Administrator program is a comprehensive course designed to teach the students the skills and abilities necessary to support and maintain computer networks. Graduates will have the skills to setup and manage a network including troubleshooting and repair of network and non-networked computers. Legal Assistants help lawyers prepare for closings, hearings, trials, and corporate meetings. Legal Assistants investigate the facts of cases and make sure that all pertinent information is considered. They identify appropriate laws, judicial decisions, legal articles, and other materials that are applicable to assigned cases. After they examine and arrange the information, Legal Assistants may prepare written reports that attorneys use in determining how cases should be handled. Legal Assistants may help prepare the legal arguments, draft pleadings and motions to be filed with the court, obtain affidavits, and assist attorneys during trials. The Business Administration Program is a comprehensive course designed to develop competence in the mechanics of business and word/data processing operations necessary in today’s automated office environment. A Medical Assistant is a professional multi-skilled person who assists a physician. This person performs duties under the direction of a physician in all areas of medical practice.
